Privacy Policy
Last updated 2026-08-18
This policy explains what information spothours.com collects, why, and what choices you have. It applies to every page on this site.
Who runs this site
spothours.com is operated by Damian Bazzano. For any question about this policy or your data, use the contact form.
What we collect
We do not ask you to create an account, and we never ask for your name, address, or payment details.
- Standard server logs, kept by our hosting provider Cloudflare: IP address, browser type, pages requested, and timestamps. These are used to keep the site running and to detect abuse.
- The country your request came from, which Cloudflare works out at the network edge. We use it once, on the front page, to decide which country's prices to show you. It is not stored and not written down anywhere.
- Anonymous, aggregated traffic statistics: which pages are popular and roughly where visitors come from at country level.
- Preferences you set yourself, such as whether you prefer final or wholesale prices. A grid tariff rate you type in is sent with that one request in order to recalculate the estimate. We do not store it; see the section below for the one caveat.
The one cookie we set ourselves
If you use the language and price-area picker at the top of a page, we store your choice in a cookie called sh_pref. It contains exactly two things: a two-letter language code and a bidding zone code, for example "sv.se3". Nothing else. It is not an identifier, it is not shared with anyone, and it cannot be used to recognise you anywhere other than on this site, where it does one job: sending you to the right page next time instead of guessing.
It lasts a year and you can delete it by clearing your browser data. We do not ask for consent before setting it because European guidance treats a cookie that simply remembers a choice you deliberately made — a language selection — as exempt. We set it only when you actually use the picker, never on an ordinary page view.
Preferences stay on your device
Your final-versus-wholesale choice is stored in your browser using localStorage. It is never transmitted to us, never linked to an identity, and never shared. Clearing your browser data removes it.
If you type your own grid rate into the field on a price page, that number travels in the query string of that one request so the server can recalculate the estimate with it. We do not save it to a database, we do not put it in our shared page cache, and we strip it out of the address before anything is sent to Google Analytics. Reload without it and the national typical value returns.
One honest caveat. Like every website, we sit behind a hosting provider, and Cloudflare records ordinary request logs that include the full URL requested. We do not read those logs to look at individual visitors and they are kept only briefly under Cloudflare's own retention policy, but the number would be in there. It is a grid tariff rate, not an identifier, and it is not connected to anything else about you — but we would rather tell you than claim a guarantee we do not control.
Cookies and advertising
This site does not currently show advertising, and no advertising cookie is set on any page. The intention is to fund it with Google AdSense. If and when that happens, this page and the date above will be updated on the same day, and the paragraphs below will describe what actually runs rather than what is planned.
When advertising is enabled, visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland will be asked for consent through a Google-certified consent management platform before any non-essential cookie is set, and a "Privacy choices" control will appear in the footer to reopen that choice. None of this is running today, because there are no ads to consent to. Analytics currently runs with all storage denied by default in those regions, which means no analytics cookie is set there either.
You can opt out of personalised advertising from Google at google.com/settings/ads, and from many other vendors at youronlinechoices.eu.
Legal basis
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on legitimate interest for security logging and basic aggregate statistics, and on your consent for advertising cookies and any personalised advertising.
How long data is kept
Server logs are retained by Cloudflare for a short period under their own retention policy. We do not maintain a separate database of visitor information. Device preferences persist until you clear them.
Your rights
If you are in the EEA or UK you have the right to access, correct, or erase personal data we hold, to object to processing, and to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority. Because we do not operate visitor accounts, in most cases we hold nothing that identifies you. Use the contact form and we will respond within 30 days.

- Cloudflare — hosting, content delivery, and security. See cloudflare.com/privacypolicy
- Google AdSense — advertising. Not currently in use; listed here because it is the intended funding model. See policies.google.com/privacy
